Feathers, beads add unexpected feminine glamour to fall styles

By Nichole Nichols, My Salon Scoop writer

Barrettes and hair clips aren't just for pigtails and other classic little girl styles. They also can be a quick way to spice up a cut or style when you think you've exhausted all of its options. Take a look at these Web sites to get some ideas to create your own decorated ‘do:

Putting a flower in your hair may remind you of a luxurious tropical getaway, but the addition of feathers and beads along with rustic colors makes these clips perfect for fall. You can find just about any type of flower you like in pretty much any color. Jazz up a short cut by clipping one at the side of your head or make a ponytail or chignon glamorous by adding one at the gathering of your hair. Prices start at $10.

If you are a fan of the CW series "Gossip Girl" then you are probably already familiar with this designer of chic hair accessories. Nicole Richie, Natalie Portman and Kim Kardashian are also fans of Jennifer Behr's silk crystal-encrusted headbands and bright patent leather and feather hair pieces. The Jennifer Behr collection can be pricey; the vintage gold knot head wrap, which is similar to a piece worn by Kardashian, is $225. Splurge on one of the crystal-encrusted hair combs to add sophistication to a softly swept up French twist.

At Home Fun

You can make your own glam hair accessories with a few silk flowers from your local craft store, some bobby pins and floral tape. Just cut the bloom down to size and wrap the tape onto the bobby pin and the flower from the base. Turn an old brooch into a glitzy barrette by taking off the pin and fastener of the brooch and gluing down a plain silver hair clip in its place.

Hair accessories are a great way to showcase your personal creativity. Get inspired!
