Dr. Fatou Batchily-Plat
PhytoSpecific lead scientist Fatou Batchily-Plat

Batchily-Plat, Jean-Louis help PHYTO to reach new clientele

By Ricki Jae Morris, My Salon Scoop writer

PhytoSpecific, a non-chemical relaxer hair care line, has been the preferred product for the manes of Oprah Winfrey, Alicia Keys, Eve and even men like Blair Underwood and Lenny Kravitiz. But did you know that the scientist behind the product is a black woman?

When Laboratories PhytoSolba founder Patrick Alès decided to invent a hair care line that went beyond PHYTO to service the needs of women with curly, frizzy, or relaxed hair, he turned to Fatou Batchily-Plat—a graduate of the French National Academy of Pharmacy and a doctor of pharmaceutical sciences.

As the Ales Group director of research and development, Batchily-Plat collaborated with Alès to create PhytoSpecific, a botanically based product that uses shampoos, conditioners, treatments and styling aids that go straight to the root to hydrate, nourish and repair the hair and scalp. The ingredients used in this revolutionary product line include quinoa oil,

sunflower extract and mango oil, all of which have what curly, coarse, frizzy and relaxed hair needs to look, feel and be healthy. According to the company press release, the relaxer itself is made from "100 percent natural origin including egg and soya extract."

Once the product was complete, Alès turned to another black woman—Kathy Jean-Louis from Martinique-to be the face of PhytoSpecific. Jean-Louis has been a model for illustrious designers including Yves Saint Lauren, Nina Ricci and Louis Feraud. She represents the product line as its brand director and ambassador-at-large.

Together Batchily-Plat and Jean-Louis work to educate thousands of women globally on the importance of maintaining a healthy scalp and hair.
