Readers, stylists prove 'healthy hair' revolution well worth creative effort
By V. Woods, My Salon Scoop founder
As I write this post, I hurry on my way to participate in a BeautySuperstars Symposium in Richmond, Va. I still can't believe that MySalonScoop.com emerged from under the dryer one year ago this month.
Some of you have been fans of the healthy hair movement since my Hair Chronicles blog. You indulged me as I spoke about my vision for My Salon Scoop to be more than just another "hair blog," and proudly called yourselves hair-nistas. My friends and sorors (of Sigma Gamma Rho fame) patiently, and painstakingly, perused every draft of artwork and the creation of the first salon review to birth the site.
I love chatting with you online and offline about your personal hair journeys. When I meet people who frequent the site, I often hear: "Girl, have I got a salon drama for you," and "I really learned something from that article." Listening to your comments truly encourage me because they are proof positive that MySalonScoop.com is a valid endeavor that fills a void for many of us who want to learn more about how to take good care of our hair.
With the launch of our salon reviews, we officially became your ultimate beauty matchmaker. The best compliment for me is learning that a hair-nista found a new salon thanks to reading a review on the site.
For those who have sent me e-mail wanting help in finding a new stylist where we currently don't have as many reviews, help is on the way. However, we still need you to continually spread the word about our hair revolution. Don't forget to complete new reviews on any new salon you visit. Remember, you can have a thoughtful opinion after your initial experience.

For the stylists who are serious about growing their businesses, we hope you hop on board the MySalonScoop.com bandwagon to take your word-of-mouth efforts to the next level. Remember, your walking billboards are spending a lot more time in front of their computers than walking down the street . Sign up to add your salon to our database so that our hair-nistas can find you.
Thanks to My Salon Scoop hair-nistas, I have learned so much more about the challenges salon owners and stylists face while running their businesses. Because of those hurdles, we pledge to continue to celebrate salons that service their clients correctly by pointing out those shining examples through our My Salon Scoop Salon Awards.
Beyond salon referrals, we want to simply give you the scoop. The editorial team, led by Editor in Chief Nichole M. Palmer, continues to strive to bring you healthy hair facts to help you cut through the fiction. It has been a joy working with Nichole from the very beginning shaping the voice of MySalonScoop.com.
We have had fun checking in with the resident beauty experts from across the country. Some may have had celebrity hairstylist status like Rukey Styles. Others may have been your own local hairstylist MVPs like Sophia Emmanuel, a New York City stylist who hipped us to the difference between lye vs. no-lye relaxers. Our check-ins with medical experts like Dr. Valencia D. Thomas of Texas have added to our credibility. In addition, we will continue to broaden our content beyond hair with experts like "The Money Coach" Lynnette Khalfani-Cox and celebrity makeup expert Marcus Geeter.
Though we want to make sure the information we give you is up to date, we believe the best way to do that is to stay in touch with you—personally. To that end, our first efforts included the salon reviews and interaction with many of you on Facebook and Twitter. In year two, we plan to launch new community features that will further enhance our site's virtual salon environment as well as open up more dialogue between stylists and the client community.
Lastly, don't forget to continue to send us your feedback about content topics you would like to see explored on the site. We're always open to new ideas, and we strive to keep the site fresh by restyling it in an effort to improve your online visit with us. As always, remember it's Your Salon Scoop.
