Short tresses shake up seasonRicki Jae Morris, My Salon Scoop writerShort. Edgy. Daring. Sexy. These words best describe this summer's haircut trend for 2010. When the heat blazes, the haircuts sizzle with enough style to turn the heads of all who appreciate a strong look on a confident woman.
And believe us, confidence will be the correct punctuation as hair-nistas strut these styles from the boardroom to the beaches. Stylists across the country agree that short is chic this season.
N.W. Washington, D.C.
"What I do with my clients...are styles from the U.K. or Japan," she said, explaining that their styles are "punkish yet simple enough to wear to work."
Another of her favorite cuts is a sort of Cleopatra ‘do.

"(The styles are) more edgy...(it's) not about curls...(the style has) more layers and choppy," she said, adding that the style is very pixy looking.
Though her clients prefer the pixy style, Cox prefers the Mohawk. She explained that it's easy to do, and she appreciates its versatility. She said the Mohawk style has become very popular. "(Women are wearing it) with one side shaved or both."
South Miami Beach, Fla.
"(Women have) more of (their) hair shaved off at the sides...(and) more of the front area is wild," Pierre described, adding that this forever evolving look is mostly seen at hair shows and in magazines.
Los Angeles, Calif.
Women are going "...a little softer...(adding) a little bit of a flip," said Rob Sterling, a stylist with Thee Salon. To achieve the best cuts, he likes to use a razor because it gives his haircuts a lot of movement.

"Some of the ladies like what Rihanna does...short on one side...a symmetric (cut)," Sterling said, adding that short styles are perfect for California summers because they keep the hair off the face and neck.
Dallas, Texas
Loc up ‘dos like buns are another favorite style sure to keep women cool, she said. Clemmons described one type of bun style as "buns with (locs) where the hair is twisted and (crowned) at the top."
And as always, women will add their own personal touch to any style. "I had someone the other day come in and (add) curls to her locs," she said.
Now when it comes to cuts, Clemmons explained that clients with locs usually don't cut their hair because of the lengthy growth process. However, when hair is in its in between stage, most women twist it to the back or wear it spiky.
