Truth, sincere care puts new client at ease

Donna prided herself on giving her clients her true honest opinion. In her mind, hair health always came first. Other stylists in her salon took the tactic of complying with any and all client requests to avoid confrontation and maximize profits. Donna, however, believed candid hair advice should come with the service.

During a recent phone consultation, Rhonda, a new client, confided that she had been to three stylists in the last six months. Unfortunately, Rhonda wasn't pleased with the outcome of their service. She needed help and hoped Donna could give her some hair rescue.

When Rhonda walked through the door for her appointment, the sight of her hair told the history of the drama — frayed ends, flaky scalp and dull, lifeless hair. Rhonda's hair screamed S.O.S.

Rhonda sheepishly slid in the salon chair. Donna looked at her through the mirror. "Let me take a good look at your hair before we get started." The stylist carefully fingered through Rhonda's mane observing serious signs of damage.

Donna mumbled under her breath, "Her hair is a hot mess." Since this was only Rhonda's first visit, Donna wanted to get a better read of her personality. Choosing her words carefully, Donna spun Rhonda around so they could face each other.

"So, what is going on with your hair," Donna asked very concerned. "What have you had done with it recently?"

"I tried a new relaxer with one stylist and played around with color with another one," Rhonda admitted. "Do you think it looks damaged?"

Donna raised her eyebrows. Rhonda didn't need another word. She lowered her eyes unable to hold her stylist's gaze. Seeing her client go into defeat mode, Donna quickly changed her consultation tactics. She spun Rhonda around. Grabbing a comb off her station table, Donna went to work on her client's head.

"I am so glad you came here today," Donna said to her looking at her in the mirror. "Now, I'm not going to lie. Your hair does need some serious TLC. Those other stylists truly did you a disservice."

Rhonda shifted a little in her chair. "But don't worry," Donna said quickly. "I have a recovery program for battered and abused hair."

Then Donna put one hand on Rhonda's head and spoke directly to Rhonda's hair, "Rhonda's hair, I know you have been through a lot. But, you have found the right hair ministry to get you on the path of good hair health. I will anoint you with jojaba oil during your bi-monthly visits and eventually you will have that glow again."

Rhonda started to giggle, "You are crazy."

"Umm, mmm," Donna asserted. "But your hair is too. Look at it!" Donna held out the Rhonda's hair on both sides of her head. Donna laughed; Rhonda laughed. And with that consultation, a new hair relationship was born.

...I AM IN LOVE!
written by Yvonne C. Hunnicutt, November 07, 2009
On Friday, November 6, after a half of a work day completed, running errands in preparation for my sorority's cabaret on the next day, I decided to try a new salon called, Bangs in South Euclid, OH, literally acrossed the street from my home. I was referred to the stylist, Jazzie by one o f my sorority sisters and again by a former childhood friend.

I arrive at 12:58p for my 1:00p. After being greeted and seated by the proprietor, Jazzie came over and introduced herself to me and I was in her chair receiving services at 1:02!!! As she consulted with me about my hair, I noticed how clean and professional the salon was. It was beautifully decorated, all the other stylists were busy working and there wasn't any loud gossip talk, conflicts or issues that caused me any disturbance in my "me time."

After Jazzie finished my consultation, she instructed me to sit at the shampoo bowl in which I received the best shampoo of my life. She gently message my tempos, cradled my head the whole time careful in not letting it bang against the bowl and giving me a good three wash cleaning. Then she sat me wrapped my hair and sat me under the dryer. She did need to leave to grab lunch while I was under the dryer but she made certain to inform me of her whereabouts, how long she would be gone and when she would return. I felt so comforted knowing that she was going to be gone for an extended period of my service time.

After she returned and I was done under the dryer, she proceeded to curl and style my hair. I received a basic wrap but was very pleased with the way in which it was styled. I also got my eyebrows arched. My entire service was reasonably priced, Jazzie was a great conversationalist and the my overall experience was wonderful. She was done with me at 2:56p!!!!!

I cannot recall a time that I've ever been to the salon and received great timeliness service in a professional environment and reasonable prices. I have already made my second appointment and hope this is the beginning of a on-going relationship.
