Client learns she can't be out glamoured by her dog

Two friends, Joy and Kianna, enjoyed lunch as they recovered from a busy morning of stimulating the economy by Christmas shopping. As with most hair-nistas, the conversation turned to hair topics such as new tips to promote hair growth and the latest celebrity hairstyles.

After two hours, Joy peeked at her watch and noticed that her hair salon appointment drew near.

"I need to get back on the road if I want to make my appointment," Joy said as she motioned to the waitress to bring the check.

"I can't believe you still keep up with your hair salon appointments," Kianna said shaking her head. "Those stylists always take up too much time, and most importantly too much money."

"Kianna, we just spent the last 30 minutes talking about new ways to get your hair to grow," Joy said. "How do you expect to safely maintain your relaxed coif without going to a professional?"

"I am not saying that I don't ever go to a beauty shop, but I keep it to just the basics," Kianna said. "Besides, I have you to get tips from your hairstylist. You always share those with me for free."

Joy understood the financial concern, but then remembered that Kianna just showed her a professional photo of her dear dog, Fifi, with a new hair ribbon for Christmas. "Hey, don't you take your dog to the groomers every month?"

"Yes, girl, Fifi needs to get her hair professionally fluffed each month," Kianna said proudly. "Her coat texture is a little wavy so she needs a specialized brush to help it looking vibrant."

Joy leaned across the table. "So, how much do you spend on FiFi's hair every month?"

Kianna stammered. "I, uh, spend about $200 a month on FiFi's groomer and hair products."

Amazed, Joy probed a little deeper. "How much do you spend on your own hair each month?"

"Uh, I guess about $20," Kianna revealed.

"So are you saying that a strand of FiFi's hair is worth more than a strand of your own hair," Joy asked.

Kianna paused stroking her hair as the latest revelation sunk in. "Wow, I never thought about it like that."

"You got FiFi rolling like an R&B superstar while you are treating yourself like the star's personal assistant. Your hair deserves to be ‘professionally fluffed' now and then, too."

"My hair does deserve at least as much TLC as FiFi's,"

"One less coat shine treatment at the groomers and you will be able to pamper both you and FiFi and stay within your budget," Joy chuckled.

"All right, you convinced me. I can't be out glammed by my dog," Kianna declared with a new resolve.

"After today, Fifi is an official hair-nista in my book," Joy continued. "You need to find out if she is really happy with her groomer or if she wishes you would search for a new stylist," Joy continued. The two women shared another laugh.
