The Scoop on the Reviews

What types of salons are included in the directory?

Any type of salon with a valid cosmetology license can be included.  The "All" type means that any type of service is offered within the salon.  Salons may be associated with a specific type of service offering (natural hair) or type of salon (Dominican).  You can find those salons by selecting that specific type in the search criteria.

I have only been to the salon once. May I write a review?

Yes. We collect reviews from all visits, whether it’s your first or your one-hundredth visit.

salon-directory-home-photov2I just added a new salon and gave a review. Will it be published immediately?

No, we validate all new entries before publishing.. First, we validate the listing information (the facts about the salon, like the address, phone number, stylist's name, etc.) for accuracy.  Then we check the review (your opinion and experience as a client) for any presence of potential inflammatory remarks that are not consistent with the spirit of My Salon Scoop. Stylists, please do not review yourself.  Reviews that appear to have been completed by the stylist will be deleted.

I just added a review for a salon already in the database.  Will it be published immediately?

No, we still check the review  for any presence of potential inflammatory remarks that are not consistent with the spirit of My Salon Scoop.

What’s in the review?

The review covers customer service, stylist expertise and ultimate hairstyle rockability.

Are you collecting only positive reviews?

No. We want fair, balanced reviews to save your sister friends time and energy. For those who are apprehensive about giving constructive criticism, you may check the box to make the review anonymous.

Do you remove reviews?

We have a policy to not remove any client review unless the review is a personal attack of the stylist or salon owner, which would violate our submission code of conduct. Remember, we encourage our readers to share their true opinions. Soon, we will add the ability for owners of Featured Listings to post a reply to reviews.

How do you pick the salons to review?

Any licensed salon and/or stylist can be included in the directory. Salons can add themselves to the directory. Or clients can add any licensed salon.

How can I tell how many people reviewed a salon?

The number of votes will be displayed in parentheses next to the star rating in the review detail.

How do I interpret what the $$s next to cost mean?

The dollar signs are meant to only provide guidance on how much you can expect to pay at a salon. We determine the dollar ratings based on information about the services received by the reviewer as well as validating the pricing of common natural or chemical services.  (See What $ Means)

How can salons and stylists participate in My Salon Scoop?

Salons/Stylists can add a new listing in the directory for free but only basic info will be displayed.  You can become a Featured Listing to showcase your work in your own words and leverage the My Salon Scoop network to spread the word about your business. Check out the example hair salon listing.
